Street Bike Questions. I Wanna start riding .?

Ok so i know that a car cost a lot more than a motorcycle but i also have heard the extra things you need for it might cost a lot( helmet, gloves, etc). Is the overall cost to own a street bike cheaper? I was also wondering about the price for insurance, liscence and getting it registered. PLZ Help.

Answer:

I bought a 2000 Savage in 2004 for $2300. Helmet cost $30. Gloves abour $15. The boots I wear are the same Tony Lamas that I wear all the time anyhow. Leather jJacket was $70. Registration, here in California, is about $75 a year, insurance is $80 a year -- $35 liability, $45 un/under insured motorists. Oil changes cost $10 for a filter and two quarts of oil. Wore through a few tires. Overall, my total per-mile costs, depreciation, maintenance, insurance, registration, fuel, etc. is under $0.30 per mile. Would be lower, but I only do about 4500 miles a year. About half of what a car would cost. It is a smalI, cheap bike, not some expensive sport bike or big cruiser. I also live in So.Cal. and ride year around. If you wuss out and drive a cage part time you blow any savings for having a motorcycle. Addendum: --- Quote --- Just today I nearly got run over at a stop light. . I didn't even seem him coming up until I heard the tires lock up --- End Quote --- DUDE!!! You gotta watch your *** when stopped at a light. Keep the bike in gear and clutched and be ready to jump out of the way of that truck. You might not be so lucky next time.
