Okay. I just got a G35 and I need winter tires or All- Seasons. First of all, do you think just snow tires are better than all season? Second, what brands/tires do you recommend? Third, do you think studded or unstudied will be best for me. My car is RWD in case you didn't know.
First question is, where do you live? Studded tires would be a waste around Seattle. but great in the Dakota's
All season tires are crappy in all seasons. they are bad in rain, snow, ice, mud, gravel.... They are a cheap option for people who do not care about their own safety, or the safety of others. If you live, or frequently go where it snows, then winter tires are the way to go. Studded tires, check local laws about that. Tire shops should be able to answer this. Any winter tires made by well known brands (goodyear, bridgestoone, firestone, perelli....) all make great winter tires.

In Colorado for commuting, ice is generally more of a problem than snow. I have used studded tires for years with good results. One year I tried blizzaks and they were as good as the studded tires the first year. By the third year they were like an all season tire. The studs will stay good for at least three years if you are care full on dry pavement, not to spin or break hard. During the time that I had the blizzaks I had to commute 60 miles one way on 75 mph highway. I was so glad I didn't have the studs. Much smoother ride and quieter.
Winter tires are not like All-Season tires. Winter tires have special rubber compounds designed to improve traction, handling and braking in all cold weather conditions, not just ice and snow. Today's winter tires have different compounds and designs that deliver from 25 to 50 percent more traction in snow and ice, and stay pliable in cold weather allowing for more control on dry roads. Using just two on a vehicle creates a traction mismatch that can have serious handling consequences. Using four winter tires ensures optimum traction and control for all vehicle types. The best tire would be the bridgestone blizzak tire and you don't need studs.
