Question:

Tail lights and dash lights not working...?

I have a 1998 Chevy Prizm. The dashboard lights and the back tail lights are not working (at night). Is this a cause from a blown fuse or what?I did recently install a stereo, but made sure that the ground wire was grounded and that all the unused wires were capped and taped off (electrical tape). I also had a Viper 350 Plus alarm installed on it by a audio/alarm shop... could there be a problem here? Both the alarm system and the stereo system work completely fine.

Answer:

Replace your headlight switch. All lighting is routed through it.Look at the terminals and you will see the middle connectors are fried.
Yes, your tail lights and dash lights on in some cases on the same fuse to notify the driver of the problem with the tail lights by turning off the dash lights, It will be a fuse in the fuse box that will be marked tail lights, or have some sort of usually bad Egyptian symbol. If you have a owners manual it will tell you what one is the tail lights. Worst case scenario you can pull one fuse at a time till you find the blown one Thanks and RMA
