Question:

The dash & tail lights wont turn on with my 1995 Buick Skylark (v6), read on?

When I use my automatic start, all the lights turn on, dash, tail and all (its supposed to be that way) but once I reset the auto start (by pressing on the brake) the dash lights shut off and the tail lights also shut off.If I put the car in park and set the lights to day time running, the dash board lights come back on, AND the tail lights?Have any ideas whats going on??

Answer:

My Clarion Unco remote start would do this on my Nissan Z. The parking lights would come on (maybe the dash, I don't remember) and when I step on the brake to take control again, they would shut off, and then I would manually have to turn on the headlights, no biggie. When it wouldn't start, it would attempt 3 times, and then if it never turned over, the parking lights would blink 3 times and it would go back to no action. Great when it worked, hassle when it didn't!
I had something like this happen to me with a vauxhall astra. My brake lights stayed on. Do what the others have said, look at your rear lights with the battery reconnected and then turn your headlights on. If they get brighter then yes, your brake light is on. Basically, it could be a switch behind your brake pedal itself. This could have fallen off or come out of alignment. It usually is a case of just clipping it back on where it belongs. Shouldn't be a hard job or something that you need to take to a mechanic. If it is that, then the mechanics are gonna get a very easy hour labour out of you.
The instrument panel lights and tail lights are both part of the same electrical circuit. When your automatic start system was installed, the installer probably tapped into your taillight circuit for a hot lead. It is probable that something in your automatic start system is shorting out the power source for your instrument panel tail lights, causing them to fail. Have a competent mechanic check out your wiring.
