soldering a coupling in the line would be the right way to do it, and the only way in my opinion, however, I take it you are not a plumber or you wouldn't have asked. so, go and get a quest fitting(sold at hardware stores every ware) for the size pipe you have, it is on the side of the pipe every foot or so. a quest type fitting is a plastic coupling with compression fittings on both ends. they work pretty good for a while, get some Teflon tape while u are there. total cost about 5.00 If you dont know the size, get several that look close, then return the ones you dident use.
