What is better tiles or carpet in a living room considering I have 3 kids ( 4 , 3 and 2 ) ? what about the kitchen?
tile trust me two kids of my own and they spill stuff all the time so I would go with tile and if you wont to get a orianal rug to lay on the floor as the kids get older you can opt for carpet good luck
If you are looking for the easiest to maintain, definitely tile. Being a living room, and having young kids, I would assume they play there, so carpet would be much kinder to falls that the little-ones will have. You can always have both, get tile and place an area rug over it, you can get the rug cleaned at a local dry cleaners or just get a cheap one that you can toss when the kids get older.
I had a house that was ceramic tile through out-I loved it. You know when your tile is dirty and when it's clean its very clean. You'll be able to clean up spills without freakin. Plus you can use rugs and take them out and clean both sides when they are dirty. It's easy to switch out decor- and it always smells good. No lingering food smells. I really think you'd want to pick out a neutral natural looking color with some depth in it so keep the kid-o's from slipping, but when it's time for a new puppy or pet-no sweat-
Carpet is better if they fall, but stains easily and shows wear. You can get carpet tiles for the kitchen, that way if there is a spill you only have to pull it up and replace that one.
tiles or bamboo flooring - carpet is dreadful with small children and pets (if you have them) they can crack if they are not installed right tho carpet is hard to clean- hard to keep the smells out- frequently adds to the allergen problems Especially with small children= if you feel you must have a rug make it small throw rugs that can be easily cleaned. you will sooooo glad you did, and no i DONT think they keep a room warmer. did you know that a new carpet offgasses formaldehyde!! all the more reason to avoid it as for tile - depending on where you are and how good your installers are will determine if its right for you. avoid the marble/granite type floors (unless you LIKE ER visits) its way to slick - personally i prefer the mexican type large floor tiles- very easy maintanence and here in this hot climate they are very cooling. they also crack if not installed correctly now if you are not sure of tile look into the newer laminate floors - especially bamboo. its beautiful, easy care, and bamboo is a Very GREEN product (rather than many rare and scarce hardwoods) even if its not the least expensive to install, in the long run i think its the easiest and least expensive to care for and live with. rj
