Question:

Tire Warranty Help.?

I bought 4 Continental tires in October, roughly 12500 miles ago. No problems occured until about 2 weeks ago when my back passenger tire developed a bubble on the sidewall (of the inside of the tire) and blew the entire sidewall out. This had me angry, but because I didn‘t purchase road hazard I wasn‘t going to make a huge case of it with Continental. Now, 2 weeks later, the same bubble in the sidewall has claimed ANOTHER tire. I understand the concept of road hazard and normally (a nail or road debris) id say its my fault, but both these tires are faulty, something this particular tire is known for, so do I have any options when dealing with either the manufacturer or vendor?

Answer:

If you are accurate and the problem may be a defect in the tire, it might be worth a try to contact the dealer where you purchased the tires. Take your receipt when you go.
You hit a pothole or other road hazard. That is what caused the bubble, which technically is known as pinch-shock damage. Not the tires fault. If you had bought a Road Hazard Warranty this would be a covered condition. But you made your choice and now you need to live with it. Life is full of risks. You took yours and trying to pass the blame to Continental doesn't change that. Pinch-shock is more likely to occur in under-inflated (overloaded) tires BTW - when was the last time you check your inflation pressures?
Tire defects are not road hazard. If there is a object that has caused a tire injury it will be easy to see so take the tire to the dealer and let him tell you what went wrong. And you do not need your receipt warranties are based on tread depth not time.
