to remove cv axles from 2002 mercury cougar?

Answer:

to remove them from the transmission side you need a flat bar skinny enough to fit in between the axle shaft and transmission then you can pop it loose on the hub side you will have a 32mm nut that you have to remove could be a different size but if I recall right that is the size. You will have to separate the bottom ball joint and the tie rod end.once you have those free you will have to get a big bar on the lower control arm and pry down usually helps if you have some one to help watch your fingers.lol then with a hammer ( be care full not to damage the axle ) tap the axle loose and pull out.put a pan under axle where it goes into the tranny to catch any fluid that leaks.to put the axle back in repeat in reverse but to pop the axle back in the tranny use a small piece of 2x4 (care full not to rip the rubber boot and tap it with a hammer until it snaps back in
