Question:

Toddler Consipation ?!?

My 3 year old is having major consipation issuesHe hasnt pooped in 5 days and before that in a weekThe only way we got 'him to go was to give him a does of MiraLax and a infant sipository all at the same timeWe have tried the combo again with no successAlso, we have tried EVERY prune jiuce, apple juice, pear juice on the planetAlong with no dairy and boosting up the fiber in his already high fiber dietHe is incredibly uncomfortable and his peditrician doesnt seem all that concernedHe said if he doesnt go by next week then come inThat is too long for my baby to not feel wellI think what happened is once he had a bowel movement that really hurt him and now he is scared to go and has backed himself upam I making any sense? I just really need a solution or helpPlease!

Answer:

about 300 calswhat about water? if you,re not getting 64 ozof water per day, you will be constipatedfiber without water makes cement.
I can say it's a healthy breakfastYou could have juice, milk or better water to add that up.
make sure you get your fiber with plenty of water each day tooHere are some of my breakfast ideas: -Whole grain waffles with a 2 table spoons of strawberry cream cheese( one on each) and a yogurt- that's about 300-325 calories( i had that this morning.) -get some fiber cereal( i like the caramel one) -special k cereal There are a couple of ideasif your really concerned of ur fiber, buy some fiber bars :)
My son dealt with horrible constipation between 1 and 2 1/2 years oldIt was horrible trying to help him get through those bowel movements because it hurt him so badWe would use the baby supositories while he was trying to do the bowel movement and we would let him (since he was wearing diapers) get into whatever positions he needed to, to get it out, and we would talk him through it, hold him, and rub his back and bellyonce he got it out he would calm down and be just fineAlso when we went into the doctor she told us to get a bottle of unflavored mineral oil and put 1/2 tablespooon into a pudding cup and feed that to him so that it would make it easier to poop laterbecause if it hurts they will stop trying for fear of it hurting again!! (which is what you said)The doctor really needs to see him because if he is blocked up so that he can't even push the piece out then it will require surgeryand if his bowels get too full he will start throwing bowel up because it will back up in his systemAlsoI don't know what kind of fiber or high fiber you are feeding him, but I would suggest getting some flaxseedit is a natural stool softener and I have used it on my second baby to make sure he never gets constipatedIf you just put a tablespoon of ground flax seed into a container of yogurt (the 6oz yoplait light rather than the little tiny sugar filled kids ones) and feed him that it will make a big differenceMaybe try the flaxseed, prune juice (several times), miralax and the infant supository all at the same timeSomething must get him to go and then afterwards it needs to be very very easy for him to have a bowel movement so that he will continue to go and that is where the mineral oil and the flaxseed come inOnce he gets going I guarantee that if he eats some flaxseed he will poop it out the very next day possibly the very next bowel movement.
