Question:

Transmission Flush??

I have a 1996 Ford Taurus 3.0 OHV with a AX4N transmission with 121000 miles the car runs great but i want to maintain the car in good condition. I was considering to flush the transmission and change the gasket and filter but I heard alot of bad thing about it. My transmission runs great the fluid still pink has no bad smell to it should i go ahead and flush the transmission or what should I do???I got the car when it had 110000 miles on it and i have no idea how the previous owner maintain the car.

Answer:

i can't permit you recognize what's solid or incorrect right here. I actual have been informed which you will flush the transmission each 25 to 35 thousand (that relies upon on who you consult with) to take solid care of your transmission. The transmission on my employer van purely went out at a hundred ninety,000 miles and by no ability became into flushed . and that's a circumvent in case you recognize what which ability. I had one automobile that the transmission went out at a hundred and twenty,000 miles, became into informed that one oftentimes went out via 80,000 miles. I see transmissions final purely as long without the flush as with the flush. so I haven't any concept who's solid or who's faulty. wager you in straightforward terms might desire to settle on for your self.
Since you are conscientious about maintenance, it's OK to change the filter, gasket and fluid. That way, when it starts shifting erratically, you will know the problem is not something simple like a filter. The biggest problem on these cars, causing premature disposal of the vehicle, is engine overheating. Maintain the thermostat, hoses and coolant. As soon as the radiator has a problem, replace the radiator. Even though head gaskets can be replaced, it's hard to convince a mechanic that it's worth the trouble. The general attitude is that Ford's have low quality. My Escort needed a rebuilt head. The garage gave me the choice; get an engine from the salvage yard or recycle the whole car.
The older the transmission gets the more wear and tear it gets and etc. In my opion with a high mileage transmission that you have i would advise against a Transmission flush. My mother had it done in her car and i was doing my best to tell her not to and she did not listen to me. About a month after she had it done she was looking at a major transmission bill. It sounds like the car was well maintained before you got it and you want to do the same. If it was my car i would say have the transmission fuild, gasket and filter changed ever year.
