Question:

Transmission Service?

So I recently got an oil change and they reccomended that I get a transmission service on my vechile. They wrote that it would be $129.99. I have a Dodge Stratus R/T 3.0Liter at 38,000 miles. What does a transmission service include? Is that a good price? What does a transmission service do on my car exactly?Should I go to the Dodge Service Department to do it instead? Also it seems that my car shifts abruply to second gear (its an automatic) would a transmission service help this problem?

Answer:

All can be purchased at a hardware store. Copper wire, brass fixtures and aluminum is easy. Zinc is found in paperclips so steal some from your teacher. Get Magnesium too. Also at the hardware store.
Go to the dodge dealer.what these places do is they have a machine that sucks out your old fluid and puts new fluid innow here's the tricky part.the filter is not changedyou have to remove the pan on a transmission like yours to replace the filter.they will not do it.the other and very important thing is they will use dextron 3 transmission fluid in your car.the owners manuel will probably tell you that it CAN be used.they now teach in transmission class what i have known for years.chrysler fluid is what should be used.dextron 3 will sometimes cause a vibration.also for the 128.00 you can get the filter and all changed at a shop and get a diagnosis on your premature shiftIts a racket at these oil change places.good luck
