Question:

Transmission swap in 95 mazda millenia?

Ok i know this may sound way out there but is there anyway to swap over a manual transmission from a 1.8 eclipse into a 2.5 mazda millenia. The millenia has an automatic tranny in it already but it has lost 1st gear. What can be done on this?

Answer:

as with any auto question, I would highly recommend calling the radio station and speaking to the guys from Car Talk. They know everything auto and give outhonest advice to each caller. They are on an FM station on Saturdays I believe at 10 or 11o'clock, but the can't remember the station ID.
there is probably a bit more to it then just a torque converter. how much just pay like $50 to see what the problem is at a diff mechanic and then just do it yourself. the problem with mechanics i can almost garuntee they will say i dont know what the problem is i have to check it out and do it before i can say cause im not sure well good luck
Transmissions are very specific to a certain car, especially in an odd car like a Millenia. Even the 2.3 Millenia transmission is different from the 2.5. The correct tranmission for your car can be found for around $300 plus shipping on eBay. From my experience with Millenia's, unless you are VERY knowledgable about working on cars, any work on them is best left to a professional. They are rare, different, and expensive to work on, but with a new transmission, you could likely get 200,000 miles on the car without any more major repairs.
