It was a coincidence. Shop alarms do not detect metal. They detect for unscanned merchandise or electronics. Think about it- if your tooth filling was enough to set of the alarm, they would be going off for nearly every person the the store who has a filling, wears a ring, a necklace, a belt, etc.
