Question:

Two of a Kind?(tires)?

I own a ninja 650r and just received a little road gift.a nail in the rear tire. The current tires are the stock ones and have about 3,000 miles left on each. With a nail in the rear tire, I was told to replace the tire completely. I want to replace the tire with a michalin pilot tire but was wondering if the front and rear tires needed to be the same. I know the pilot tire is a much better tire than the touring stock tires and didn‘t know if having different tires would negatively effect the handling characteristics. Any help with this matter would be appreciated. Thanks!

Answer:

Unless your track racing- minimal difference in having unmatched tires of same basic pattern front/rear. Replace damaged rear and let front go until worn or bad checked to recommended limit. Fronts usually last twice as long as rear on street bikes.
Usually the cycle shop or tire manufacturer can let you know if they are compatible or not. What's the stock tire on that? be sure to keep the size the same and you should be fine until the front tire needs replaced.
I talked to national rep for a motorcycle tire maker. He said feel free to mix and match brands or within the same manufacturer.
The other answers are spot on, I use WD40 on sticking callipers and works every time. Careful not to get an type of lubricant on pads or disc
