you have to make changes in converting the power like using more number of teeth in a wheel.
houses dont have lightning rods for the same reason they dont have sprinkler systems. if a big building is destroyed, lots of people will die (and usually taller, making a better target for lightning), so the law says you must have it. your house is your house, and the chances lightning will strike it is less than the chance of it burning down for some other reason, yet most people dont have sprinklers either because of the cost against the chance you will ever need it. even if a house a week was struck by lightning, thats out of hundreds of thousands of houses, and 20 or 30 a week that burn down for some other reason.
