Question:

unauthorized charger?

i got a motorola rival from a family member and it did not have a charger, so my friend told me she had found a charger to fit my phone, and the same charger works in the both of our phones and she tried it and it charged her phone but when i put it in my phone it says unauthorized charger. When i check the status of the battery it says charging but when i take the charger out it cuts off. please help me!-thanks

Answer:

It doesn't matter if it's authorized or unauthorized. I use my friend's chargers all the time! It still works!
Some manufacturers put additional pins in the connectors just so they can be sure you are using their brand charger, even though lots of other brands would work just fine. You can call their customer service number and tell them you do not appreciate that sleazy trick and will not buy their brand again because of the inconvenience it forces on you. Then call some other brands and ask if they do that, so you will know what brand to buy next time. I have heard that the United Kingdom has been talking with manufacturers to get them to standardize their charger connectors so there won't be so many chargers being thrown away. Chargers apparently are clogging landfills there. They certainly are clogging Salvation Army stores in the USA.
