Question:

Uplugging a clothes dryer for safety?

I had a problem a while back where my clothes dryer was making a low humming noise in the back after using it for about an hour. I thought something was wrong so I unplugged it for a while. Someone told me that to be safe I should keep it unplugged when I'm not using it, even though it never did this since that one time. Is it necessary to keep it unplugged all the time? I don't think it can start a fire when it's been off for a long time, can it?

Answer:

I personally don't believe in sins
there might be dust in the detector either vac it out or use canned air to blow it out
They have a some stored energy in them. It will keep on beeping for a while, even without a battery. Depending on how much energy, it could be a couple of hours. You might be able to run it out by hitting the test button. ADD I'm assuming that you have a battery only type. If it is wired in too, then it will keep beeping until you replace the battery with a new one. I take these seriously. Our neighbors house burned down last year. Since then I put in additional ones. We now have 11 in our house. Three are wired in and eight are battery only.
