Question:

VirusAm unable to locate CONTROL PANEL and other important things because it says I have no administrator..

It requires that I have administrator privileges because we think we got a pretty bad virus. I cannot access the Control Panel to fish around in there. We aren't even able to do a system restore or anything because of the fact that we can't access due to administrator privileges. If anything we are just trying to get our family's pictures off the computer to put on CD's to preserve them but we can't even do that. CAN ANYONE HELP US PLEASE!!?? Images will also not show up on webpages, etc. The internet is relatively fast, however, when it does work. I'm fairly savvy with the computer and I'm trying my hardest.

Answer:

Well the main difference is access control plain and simple. You can know where every wired port is, and who's plugged in to it. With wifi, you can never really know who has potential access. To control who can access a wireless network a variety of methods have been employed. The most common are MAC filtering and signal encryption. With MAC filtering, the theory is only computers with specific (and supposedly unique) fingerprints are allowed to access the network. In reality this can be spoofed, but it takes some knowledge and some time. With encryption, the theory is that the computer is essentially talking to the network in a secret code known only to the network system, and even if the packets get intercepted or somebody connects to a wifi point inside the network, they won't be able to crack the code. In reality there is no such thing as an uncrackable code. It just takes time. Thusly we have WPA, which is progressive authorization. The idea here is that it takes some time to crack a code, so you change the code every 30 seconds or so. With wired networks, you lock the door of the room with the port in the wall.
As long as it's drivable it's still a car, I wouldn't want my door to fall off on a speedbump, would you?
