Question:

Waterslide Materials?

Last year, we tried making a large waterslide. We built a quaterpipe about 12' high and put it on a top of a hill, that goes into the water.Anyway, I believed we used 6mil plastic. We had a hose on it constantly and even doused ourselves in soap but it still wasn't as fast as others I have seen on TV or internet videos. What material should we use to get the fastest speed? Should we use a thicker plastic?

Answer:

The ratio of the amount of filling done by each hose is 1 : 2 : 4. So the first hose does 1/7 of the work, the second 2/7 and the 3rd 4/7. The amount of time for the first hose to fill 1/7 of the tank 1/7 hour ? Answer or 2/7 * (1/2 hour) and 4/7 * (1/4 hour). 1/7 hour about 8.57 minutes. It makes sense that it is less than the 1/4 hour needed by the third hose alone, since that one is getting help from the other two, speeding up the job. They do 3/7 of the job together, which would take the big hose 3/7 * 1/4 hour 3/28 hour 6.43 minutes, which is of course 15 - 8.57.
You didn't mention a brand. Some have rollers that the drum rests on, when you say squeaks I would think a dry roller. It could also be the idler, rather tensioner wheel for the belt, this generally rides on the back side of the belt. If it is sort of a grinding then the felt that the tub rests on. The rollers are generally to the back of the drum. You may be able to oil them with a turbine oil or non-detergent oil.
