Question:

weird... these past few days I always get grounded or spark our metal door knob... does any of you got an idea?

I heard something about the static whatever... but I want a simple explanation. Thanks (^_^)

Answer:

Static electricity. Google it. Simple enough ?
A very simple explanation. Static electricity is caused by 2 dissimilar materials that are non conductive rubbing against each other and building a powerful electrostatic charge. This is then discharged suddenly through a conductor. The conductor is usually dry air and you are part of the conductor. That is why you feel the shock. To prevent it, build up a higher humidity in your home or quit scuffing your feet on the carpet.
It is caused by static electricity build up and when you touch something metal you are creating a circuit for the static electricity to travel through, hence you feel a spark. I get this a lot when I wear a particular pair of long work pants. When I walk around the fabric charges itself with static electricity and when I touch something metal, a door knob or the roof of my car, I get a charge. If you think it's due to something you are wearing then you can buy an anti static spray to use on your clothes. It won't harm the fabric but it will reduce the electric charge. Most super markets carry this spray in the clothes washing aisle.
When the air gets dry it will build a static charge of positive proportions and when you touch something that has a negative or grounded then a electron or two jump ship for it either through the air as you get close or as you touch. I rebuilt my house and as an electrician I know the importance of a good ground so I ran all my outlets in armored cable and use a two ground method for my computer circuits. This is great!..............Until it gets dry. You cant look at a receptacle without getting a charge lol. It will go away as the temps flux. If it becomes a pain then a few tricks can apply, carry a metal pipe or leave one near the door. When these times arise then touch it to the ground and any metal near or around the door or whatever the item may be. It will take that electron to ground so you don't have to. The other is to screw or fasten a leather strap to the door. Have you ever seen a tanker big rig? look under the belly you will see something hanging to the ground and its usually leather. Like your skin it will react with this charge displacing it to ground. Hope this helps.
