What did they have in those time periods (or any other) that would be considered unbelievable or extremely ingenious?
I have to agree with squirrelnow, I think it is philosophy. But I will go the extra mile, technology is not just making us buy things we don't need. it is telling us HOW to think, WHAT to expect, and WHAT to do. it has enslaved us. We are drones who have been brainwashed by the entertainment industry, commercials, and news into thinking that working overtime, all the commuting, and commercialization is a good thing for society, despite how ill adversely it is affecting our planet. It also enslaves us to our government and the powerful corporations.we have been being spied on before the Patriot Act made it legal, we have our buying records for sale between businesses, everything we do is surveillance, thanks to technology. Now we are getting national I.D. cards in May, 2008. I am very suspicious about these cards. I like how you said that living used to be alot closer to free and was more like a right, living isn't as free anymore, in fact it is only getting more expensive. Car insurance, health insurance, dental insurance, income taxes, inflation, it is a struggle for many just to keep food on the table.thank empathy for the salvation army. Only reason I didn't starve growing up, but I was still always hungry. It is true that technology has increased life span, but it takes more than technology for the human life expectancy rate to lengthen. All the industrialism is wreaking havoc on the ecosystem, we were never meant to over populate the planet as we have. Before nature controlled population with disease, this is evident in animal populations, but now we have found a way around population control and are marching towards self destruct. We are paying dearly for technology advances/globalization and I fear that in the future it will become more prevalent.
The Egytians were able to accurate calculate the angles on the Great Pyramid. The Romans had a from of concrete that got stronger in water-modern engineers are still trying to figure it out. The Greeks worked out harmonics in music, developed logic and geometry and democracy! Alexander the Great promoted religious tolerance and acceptance of other culures within his empire, an innovation at the time.
