Minerals are classified in many ways. One of the most popular way is based on their luster. Minerals with metallic luster are classified as metallic minerals and minerals with non-metallic luster are classified as non-metallic minerals. By and large most metallic minerals as ore are used for extraction of metal(s) but all metallic minerals are not used as ore of metals, e.g. pyrite is a metallic mineral but not used as an ore of iron.
