Ha. Haha. Wow. No, they're not metal. They're a rock-based imitation of metal that is designed for people who cannot handle metal to feel like they're badass. If you want metal, listen to Ahab or Amon Amarth. You know, a band that actually IS metal.
They are not as hardcore as they were when they first came out. They are floating towards mainstream, it seems since Corey Taylor has been playing with his other band Stonesour. But, who knows what's going to happen next, since the death of Paul Gray ?
Being from Des Moines I would have to say they definitely push towards a new direction after Iowa came out. In subliminal verses they toned some songs while shredded others Its just how they evolved as a band. In sublimial verses the whole idea was that it was progressing into a newer sound. And it told the fans that hey were changing some s hit, but were going to keep our s hit our s hit and with Blister Exits he basically said i wont let you get away without hearing what i had to say , basically an untone for the whole cd and band in a changing form. you gotta look at them not only as music you push play but the art of a human Duality so i hope that answered some questions or confused the s hit out of ya. eighter way thanks for question.
I'm sorry, but you asked the question and then you concluded it yourself. What else do you want? They 'shred' I guess you haven't heard 'Sulfur' 'Psychosocial' 'Pulse of the Maggots' or a lot of their newer songs, cuz they do have a lot of guitar going on between Mick and James. (Since you probably aren't a big fan...) And, what, they don't have high screams? I never knew it was a specification of metal to be able to scream really high-pitched. Corey can growl and he can definitely scream, have you not heard any of their music? Especially the album Iowa or their self-titled? Check out the song 'Scream' for God's sake. Or 'Get This' 'Spit it Out' 'Surfacing' 'Eyeless' 'People=****' or 'I Am Hated' if you want some good examples of what Corey can do. They are in some cases considered Heavy Metal but they are definitely Nu-Metal. In fact, they stand as founders of the sub-genre itself. You do know metal has many different sub-genres, right?
