What are the advantages and disadvantages of plastics?
The plastic can be processed into various shapes according to the requirement of use, and the processing technology is simple, and the machine is suitable for large-scale production by mechanization.
The density of plastic is between 0.8-2.2g/cm3, generally only steel 1/3-1/4, aluminum 1/2, concrete 1/3, similar to wood. It can reduce the construction intensity and reduce the weight of the building.
Plastics have better corrosion resistance to ordinary acids, alkalis, salts and greases than metals and some inorganic materials. Especially suitable for chemical plants such as doors and windows, floors, walls and so on.
The thermal conductivity of plastic is very small, about 1/500-1/600 of the metal. The thermal conductivity of foamed plastics is only about 0.02-0.046W/mK, about 1/1500 of metal, 1/40 of cement concrete, and 1/20 of ordinary clay brick. It is an ideal heat insulating material.
The specific strength of plastic is much higher than that of cement concrete. It is close to or even beyond steel. It belongs to a kind of lightweight and high strength material.
