what are the disadvantages of nitrogen filled tires?
Can't think of any. Air is made up of 79% Nitrogen anyway, the other 21% being about 20% oxygen and 1% inert gases so because these gases are not in the tyre ther should be no difference. Tne only disadvantage I can see is in finding a pump that only produces nitrogen and the cost involved. I mean you would have to buy pressurised canisters. I can't thinmk of any particular advantage either. There are millions upon millions of tyres filled with air so why not just use that.
Racing teams often use nitrogen to fill their tires out of convenience, certainly not for performance. There is a theory that oxygen content in the air combined with the heat generated by continuous driving causes an increased level of oxidation to the rubber inside the tire, thus, the tire would wear better and not lose its efficiency if using nitrogen.
