Question:

What are the safety recommendations for a metal fabrication shop, clothing wise?

I work for a custom metal shop. We use galvanized, paint grip (bonderized), and copper flat sheets. I am trying to get dress code set up for the shop, but need some tips. I've called OSHA and all they told me was that they couldn't tell me over the phone what our workers need to be wearing. And that unless we have them come in, $$$, they can't tell us! We use metal snips, soldering, spot welder, big machine cutters and benders. Obviously, no loose clothing is allowed, but I don't know what else. Please help if you work in a metal shop or know about this kind of thing! Thank you in advance for all of your suggestions.

well, batting gloves may be helpful. These put a little bit of padding on your hands when you are batting. I especially like them when the weather is colder, because it stops the vibration. Also, you may want to buy your own batting helmet. My league only permits a batting helmet that has a face shield. This is up to you. Most teams have batting helmets for their players to use though. Also, pants are usually worn for softball because you will most likely be sliding. High socks are also worn. With tips, if you can throw far and accurate, shortstop or third base would be good. Also, outfield gets very boring, but that would be ok. Second base is the easiest position on the field. Catching can get scary because you are standing behind the batter and catching fast balls. It can also get uncomfortable. Being pitcher is very hard. I am the main pitcher for my team. If you feel like you may be able to do it, just try it, and do not get frustrated if it takes a while to get used to. First base is usually good for taller people who can catch very well. I have played every position on my softball team, and this is how i know all of this. Good luck!!
