Question:

What are the steps in DIY blown insulation in my basement room Also I prefer not too remove ceiling tiles?

I have a room in my basement and it has a wierd tile ceiling I just don't want to really have to take down so I am doing the blow in insulation.Do I approach the ceiling with same techniques as walls by placing a holes between studs?

Answer:

Don't understand why you want to insulate the cieling! Noise? You are not going to save heat, for any heat lost just goes to the floors above.easier to adjust the vents throughout the house to make the basement warmer.and if there is an open stairs, the heat is just going to rise into the house regardless of what you doIf it is noise you are trying to get around, better to apply a new layer of accoustic cieling tile than insulation.I suggest you step back from this project and determine what you are doing and why.ceilings exposed to outside air are insulated, exterior walls of bathrooms must be insulated in colder climates, as should all walls be, but a basement cieling? I have no idea what you think you are going to save.certainly not money, and certainly not heat! Noise abatement is easier done with sound absorbancy.acoustic tileIF the basement is hard to heat, then look to the walls.what are they of.if concrete, consider furring out, use polyfoam insulation board and drywall.that saves heat! good luck
