Question:

What axle swap front and rear, for my 1989 GMC Jimmy S15?

I have a 1989 GMC Jimmy S15 Gypsy with a 4.3L TBI V6. Im looking to get a donor car with a pair of axles with matching gears front and rear. Like a Dana 44 front and a Dana 60 rear or the combo of 44‘s or 60‘s. I just need to know if anyone has any sugestions on which vehicle would have the axle sizes Im looking for and if anyone knows where I can get them at a decent price? Thanks alot.

Answer:

Junk yards and Craigslist are always the first places I look. I don't know where you are but Olympic 4X4 in Snohomish Washington is a great place in the Seattle area. As for what has those axles I would look for older 1/2 and 3/4 pickups, like the 70's fords.
Pottery and ceramics are interchangeable as far as words go, one is the other. Keramos means burnt earth in reference to firing the clay. What your contest might be hinting is that some people do Ceramics by painting slip cast clay projects. It takes some practice but the pieces are reproduced art pieces rather than hand built works of art or wheel thrown pottery.
I think in this case pottery refers to something that is actually functional, like a clay bowl, plate, cup or vase. Ceramics refers to something that is probably more sculptural but is still made out of clay, like a bas relief carving, or a statue.
Do you plan on keeping it street legal? The axles you are talking about will have a wider track than your S-15 making the tires stick way out If you are wanting to just go 4 wheeling with it, i'd put a Dana 44 front, or way better, a Dana 60 out of a Chevy or a Dodge. (Ford has the center section on the wrong side) For a rear, go with a Chevy 14 bolt semi or full floater axle. They're stronger than a Dana 60.
