Question:

What cause the northern lights?

I want to know what cause the northern lights?

Answer:

Northern lights are caused by charged solar-wind particles entering the upper atmosphere and being deflected towards the poles(in this case, the north pole) by the earth's magnetic field. As particles spiral down the magnetic lines of force they bombard gas molecules, causing them to emit coloured light.
Since Earth's magnetic fields are weaker at the poles, Solar radiation easily enters our atmosphere there. When it does, it burns up, resulting in the colorful lights we've all come to know and love.
