Question:

What causes smoke detectors to go off all at once?

Randomly last night I was woken up by all the smoke alarms in the house i am renting going off at once. I could reach the bedroom once so i took it down and then while trying to reach a different one they just all stopped. what would cause this to happen?

Answer:

Normally I'd say the higher the speed the more friction. But a tire and a road is a special case. When you skid on a tire, the tire sheds rubber which rolls up into little roller bearings so there's less friction, not more. This is why ABS (Anti-lock Brake Systems) doesn't let the tires skid, it keeps them rolling, just above a skid.
It's to show solidarity with minorities—a safety pin is a symbol that you're safe and mean people no harm based on their race, religion, or gender.
