Our apartment has navy blue carpet and off white walls. I have used a red, white and blue theme throughout the apartment. Other colors that look well include gold, khaki, any green and pink. You just need to go looking at what kinds of things appeal to you.
Is the red a bright or dark red? I would suggest you look for a neutral color and maybe stripes or a bold print. It may sound crazy but you would be surprised at how great that would look.Take a look at what other colors you have in the room: like picture frames, tables,sofa pillows and the rug. Pick a color from there and use it to tie it all together.You can use dark reds and light browns,some shades of blue will work. A bold print if the furniture is a solid color.
You've got a few options, I think. You could go with a light blue on the walls, brown, yellow, tan/beige. You could check out some curtains at JC Penney online. They have a variety with a blue/brown combo. I would look for curtains as an inspiration, and take the colors for the accessories and bedding from them. You could mix up (as an example) blue and brown bedding and make your own sheet set. Many stores sell just flat sheets, fitted sheets and pillow cases separately rather than as a set.
