Question:

what distinguishes a laser from other common light sources?

describe laser from other light sources

Answer:

light from a laser is coherent, that is, in an exactly parallel beam, and all of the photons are at the same frequency and in phase with teach other. Light from other sources has a band of frequencies, not in phase, and heading in all directions. .

well a laser you can actually see a line of light through the air other light you can really do that unless its dark lets say you have a flashlight and a laser right ok and youre outside on a sunny day, you decide to turn on your flashlight and you cant see a line of light then you turn on your laser you can actually see the light waves through the air therefore it is more powerful than other types of light also i dont know if you can do this with other types of light but if you point a laser towards a wall the light will bounce off/reflect towards another wall as if there are two lasers in the room. Hope this helped :)
