Do it like the professionals. During peak conditions shoot up a model rocket that is trailing a wire, works everytime. Note they use a air tube to set off the rocket so the lightening strike doesn't come back at you.
its a relatively small hole so pick up some FIX-ALL from home depot. it adheres to almost anything and if the wall is textured use a wet sponge to ease the edges of the patch so the new texture will blend in better. no unsightly lines from the patch its a cheap and effective fix. could use a variety of products ie. hot mud, plaster, everything that was stated above but if your inexperienced this will be the easiest for you. enjoy THE VIN MAN
