I agree that his comment was way out of line.but why are we so upset with his comments when people in the music business use those kinds of comments, lyrics and other racial remarks to sell records. Are we not being hypocritical for calling for the head of Don Imus, when we embrace the music of others using the same derogitive terms, if not worse?
Beore I answer your question, I will say that your hypocritical statement is bogus. What he said has nothing to do with what is said in music (rap music, I presume you are talking about) because first; he is on public television. On his radio show, which has way less listeners and can go unnoticed, he could have gotten away withit (as many offenders do), but since he was on tv, with a larghe viewing audience, he could not. With rap, you don't hear rappers on tv or on the radio blurting out that nonsense. Any offensive language by rappers (or rockers, which you obscenitly left out) would be bleeped out. If you buy the rappers cd, which are labeled if they do contain foul language, then you could hear all the foul language you want. So please, stop with the bogus comparison (and tell all your friends in the media to stop doing so also). Second, because he directed his comments at the girls on the basketball team who are not public figures (which, in the communication world [in which I have a BA] is, unethical), he must be held accoutable for them. Now, answering your question of should Imus have fired, no. Why do I say this? Because he had been hammered in the press and that was enough for me. I think by having him stay on, he could have led this country forward into some much-needed dialogue on racial relations. He himself said that he would have more Black guests on his show and that was a step in the right direction (eventhough I think he should have said he'd have more minorities period).

no because they don't have a show which regularly host political candidates and members of the media. All most all of the candidates in the last presidential election visited his show and it likely would have been the same this time.
I think firing Imus was a good idea. I dont support any artist who denigrates women, I'm not hypocritical aobut this, its a blanket policy, the goes for snopp dogg and mick jagger, (under my thumb).
