if an earring has a base metal post is it like gold or nickle or what??
It will set off the metal detector, but if you aren't able/it's too much hassle to take it off for long enough to get through the security checkpoint, you could always mention this to security and let them check you with a patdown/handheld scanner.
When flying, I wear an unboned girdle with plastic, instead of metal garter clips. I wear girdles everyday also.
Yes wearing a girdle with metal boning could set off the airport metal detector. Since I am very uncomfortable and do not feel dressed unless I am in a very firm boned girdle my solution is to before I go through the metal detector at a airport I put myself in a light girdle without boning. I realize from my own experience that once you are use to the support a boned girdle does offer you do get somewhat uncomfortable, but at least a light girdle does give some moderate support until you are through the metal detector. I always carry the boned girdle with me when I am through the metal detector I go to the bathroom and change into the boned girdle. I hope this helps I know it works for me.
Some metal detectors maybe, but others aren't so sensitive. I've gotten through wearing a belt before and the buckle was metal, and I've gone through with the metal detector going off and merely got further metal detector wand usage. I suspect if you set it off and simply tell them what it is, they probably won't make a huge fuss out of it.
