Question:

What does it mean if the anti theft light in my car is blinking?

I just bought a used 2001 Honda Civic EX coupe today and I noticed when sitting with my car off that the anti theft light on the dash near the cd player was blinking. To my knowledge, the car has no security system (I only have a key, no fob or anything with auto locking and unlocking functions). What does this anti theft light do and what does it mean if it‘s blinking? Sorry only owned a 81 F150 before this so this is kind of new to me.

Answer:

The light in my car does not blink. It comes on now and then. Should I take it to the dealer to have it check out?
This is a preventative measure Honda put in their vehicles to give the appearance that the vehicle is fitted with an anti-theft device. The blinking light catches the attention of would-be car thieves as a deterrent. In all actuality, the light means nothing and you shouldn't worry about it. Experienced car thieves ignore this light anyway. Hope this helps explain.
Everyone knows that when the red anti theft light is blinking, then you don't steal that car. So don't steal that car.
