Question:

What does the ETS OFF light mean on a 1999 chevy cavalier and it delays and jerks when the gears change?

This only happens when I drive for long periods of time.

Answer:

The seat has never heated up in all the hours I spent as a pillion.
MY Honda VFR pipe was not under the seat but near it. I think the bigger issue will be having your passenger watch herself when she get son off so she doesn't burn her leg (good idea to wear long pants too).
ETS is an active safety feature on GM autos. What it does is detect wheel slipage and drops the RPMs and power output of the motor. Normally used by your car on icy or wet roads. These go bad often. ETS OFF means that this system is currently not operational. Some GMs have a button on the dash that says ETS or TCS if that button got bumped, then you could just press it. The light would go off and operation of car would return to normal. If you press the button to no avail or your car doesn't have the button, then you should just take to a service center.
ETS is an electronic traction control system that retards engine performance to help control wheel slippage. When there is an engine dtc or trouble code the pcm disables the ETS system. Take it to your gm dealer and have it diag. My just be an engine related concern.
This is a sensor relating to the throttle.
