Question:

What exactly is 1827? Please read full question?

My chemist has been supplying me with what I was led to believe was Sodium Hydroxide. I have been using this to degrease kitchen exhaust systems. While researching the possibility of buying beads and mixing my own I noticed that the chem number 1827 never appeared anywhere (this is what I have been using). My question is what IS 1827 /Anhydrous Stannic Chloride and how does it differ from Sodium Hydroxide? Handling, safety, toxicity, anything you can tell me.

Answer:

There is no essential difference. Both words can be applied to a variety of methods of indicating the presence of many different kinds of material. It may be that particular applications have a preference for just one of those words - metal detectors springs to mind ; I have never heard anyone refer to them as metal sensors (although, of course, the instrument which is called a metal detector includes a specific component which is called a sensor) - but in many cases either word would be just as good as the other, and there is no special significance implied by the choice of one word over the other.
They check the fire extinguishers in buildings, and change them when needed.
