It will be fine as long as it was kept frozen the entire time.
When In doubt, throw it out! It'd better to be safe than sorryMedical bills for a foodborne illness are expensive, and food poisoning from salmonella and EColi are no fun to deal with! So throw out that old meat, spend a little more money now, get fresh meat and enjoy!
It's perfectly fine to eatI don't know why ground beef darkens when frozen, but I have this happen more often than notSo long as the meat was kept frozen it's safe to eat.
The direct contact of aluminium foil on the surface of the meat has caused the surface pigment to oxidize to a pigment called met-myoglobinIt is safe to eat ground beef in this stateI would recommend that you freeze it in plastic next timeThis won't necessarily keep it very red because depending on how long it takes to freeze, the meat will turn to a darker deoxymyoglobin during the freezing process (deoxymyoglobin is purplish red)To keep it bright red you have to freeze the surface extremely quickly (within minutes)At any rate, it is safe to eat.
