Will fabric around it, like shade cloth work?
The Sun does illuminate every planet in our solar system but not evenly. Like every other radiation light obeys the inverse square law, i.e. every time the distance is doubled the amount of light is decreased by 4 (2 squared). So that the further away the planet is the less light illuminates it. However, if you were standing at the Sun and looking out at the planets they probably would display different brightnesses because of the different amounts of light reflected to us due to their different sizes. So that what we would see depends on the distance and the size of the planet.
