Hi there. This incident is extremely traumatic and unfortunate. It is no wonder you are having difficulty sleeping and coping. You are experiencing a form of post-traumatic stress, which is quite common when witnessing this kind of horrible situation. ((((HUGS)))) and prayers to you and everyone else involved in this! I agree with you that drivers should be a LOT more careful, especially when there are young children out playing. Unfortunately there are still idiots out there who don't pay attention and speed regardless. There are also people who get distracted by something, and it only takes a second to have something this horrible happen. Those with a conscious will stop and assist in the situation and own up to the responsibilty they played and do whatever they can to help and make amends as it was an accident. Unfortunately, most towns do not have the funds to put the speed bumps in the roads and that is a sad reality we need to face. While it would be great to have them (especially by the bus stops in our area where some of these idiots just cruise by at 30-40 mph with no regard) we need to just be as responsible as we can as parents and teach our kids as best as we can how to avoid this happening to is. The reality is though, that sometimes accidents and unfortunate events can take place despite our best intentions and efforts. As for your difficulties in dealing with the situation, I would suggest talking about it, perhaps first with the others who witnessed this atrocity. You can all share your feelings and thoughts together and be of mutual support. If you are unable to do this, or unable to get past this on your own, seek help from a counselor or pastor to support you through this difficult time. I'm saddened to hear of this happening and sorry you had to witness this. I will pray for this sweet innocent child and for you to help you get through this.
No. It wouldn't happen to me. Because I watch my children. The mother of that little girl should be prosecuted for negligence.
I don't want to sound insensitive but was that a true story? Unfortunantly people do make up crazy things and I wouldn't have asked it I thought for sure it was fake. I do agree that people do drive too fast, and it is a terrible story. I can't imagine witnessing something like this. I get very nervous myself with my daughter outside and I am always outside with her.As I said people do need to slow down in ares where there are children, but 5 year old's also should not be outside without a parent. I understand that other adults are outside but being a mother myself it is difficult enough to watch your own children in such and open area. Speed bumps and signs will definantly help but it needs to be combined with responsible parenting.
How traumatic! The child is lucky to be alive, there seem to be a number of kids hit by cars (a toddler was killed by his uncle in his drive way just a week or two agothere were no charges filed, as it was an accident) but kids are so unpredictable. I only have to watch the one, I couldn't imagine having that many around at once! There are always kids out in the neighborhood playing, and the cars down my street zoom by at incredible speedsI've never thought of asking for speed bumpswhat a wonderful idea!
