Question:

What is "hours meter reading"?

i started work in a company and i have to maintain a fuel record of diesel generators.i need to know about this term, kindly answer me in good and easy manner and get 10 points.

Answer:

As opposed to mileage on a vehicle, the hours meter keeps record of the hours of operation, for servicing, etc.
The first two people to answer this question are both correct. They just explain it differently. Somewhere on the generator control panel, there is a meter that reads Hours on it. It is measuring (counting), in hours and tenths of an hour, how many hours the engine has been operating. It activates whenever the engine is turned on and deactivates when the engine is turned off. It's the best way to figure out when an engine needs service when you cant count its use in miles or kilometers.
it is a meter, more than likely electronic digital but ive seen mechanical ones also, that is attached to the generator that tells you how many hours it has been running or in your case at how many hours you have to add more diesel
