Not too late just ride both. Always remember it's going to hurt when you fall but don't let that stop you from getting better
I find that diffused lights(2 at 45 degree angles for flat lighting) in a light tent works well for me. Depending on the backdrops and color of the subject, I may need to add or subtract a little exposure compensation. Lighting can be changed for different dramatic effect, but the important thing is that it be diffused. so you don't get a harsh glare.
1. You go about learning to skate a little at a time by working at it same way we all did. It's pretty much the same for all of us however some folks have a headstart because we started learning as kids. Kids can fall a lot because they are constructed out of rubber and are built quite low to the ground. This makes falling and getting up not such huge a thing. Make yourself take chances and learn the new thing before thinking it's too late so you don't end up like the Tapir.
