I have had 4 in my life. They are not at all painful and I too am one of those people who have teeth hard to deaden. They are just time consuming and it is uncomfortable to have your mouth held open for the 1 to 1 1/2 hours they take. The dental dam or rubber sheet they use to isolate the tooth makes it a little uncomfortable - but not painful. Most dentists will give you a Walkman with headphones to help you pass the time. Don't worry. I had one just a couple of weeks ago and went shopping at the mall 30 minutes later. (The most painful part was the $920 price tag!)
