First consider the 5 types of heat loss your water can undergo for your design1Conduction - Heat flowing through contactYour biggest concernCreate a dead air space around your canMaybe with a foam like great stuffLook at the R value of insulatorsThe higher the R value the better the insulator2Convection - Cold air blowing across your can of water and circular water currents in your can waterMaybe try wrapping your insulator in some plastic wrap? 3Radiation - Infrared radiation emitted from your hot waterUse a shinny metal to reflect the infrared radiation back toward the watersome aluminum foil would be the cheapest method 4Evaporation - If their is no top this will be a major form of coolingmake sure you have a cap5Mass Transfer - Not really applicable for your design Basically you will want to create a lot of dead air space around your can with some layers of shiny metal foil to reflect IR radiationThen wrap all of this with plastic wrap to prevent convection cooling.
