Yes, I may be only 18 but I was brought up by my parents to be polite. I find it to be sad how todays society is. You find very few people these days that will give eye contact while speaking and as you have pointed out.
I like your question and I agree that our society has lost it's manners! A couple generations ago they actually taught etiquette classes and wrote books about it. Now it's considered nerdy or uncool to practice good manners. Language has become rude and if people think there was free love in the late 60's early 70's that was nothing compared to the sexual norms now. Every TV show, movie, etc makes it the norm to sleep together on the first date. I could go on forever about this. I guess people will reap what they sow. All I can do is hope and pray we wake up and clean up our way of life!
I always make sure not to make eye contact on the freeways here in CA. No need to start something by mistake!
I am so glad to not be the only one with this complaint. People have turned so much to techonology (cell phones, tv, video games, computers, etc) that they no longer know how to deal with real humans. Also, I don't think parents are teaching etiquite anymore. Simple courtesy to others should be a reflex, not an effort. Yes, there are getting to be an extremely discusting amount of rude and selfish people. Whew, got that out!
