What is the difference between an axle and a shaft?

What is the difference between an axle and a shaft?

Answer:

Almost two words for the same thing. Every axle is a shaft but not every shaft is an axle. The axle must have a wheel connected to it or it's a shaft.
Smiles, G'morning. I heard of him, but probly never actually heard him. I know what AM radio is though, LOL. Hugs, *waves to Chicken Little too.*
the axel holds the tires and the shaft turns the tires
shaft propels the axle with a differential
radio ? what is this radio you speak of ? LOL Very nice. And I must, I'm lovin' the batman nemesis thing, haha
