Question:

What is the difference between progressive metal and metal.?

I do not know what the difference between these two genres is. Please do not say that quot;Progressive metal is prog rock and metal.quot; I do not know what the word progressive implies. Thanks in advanced!

Answer:

As a Metalhead from 1970 (Black Sabbath's debut!) The 70's Metal is where it started. Great bands like Black Sabbath and Judas Priest ruled the Metal realm. In my opinion the 80's Hair Metal fag bands almost killed the genre and if it wasn't for the late 80's Thrash attack they probably would have. Metal of today is so much more diverse than it ever has in the past. Great Black, Death, Power, Gothic, Industrial, Heavy Metal from all over the world! It's the internet/world era now. Embrace it!
Metal Man. Your name doesnt do you justice. Being Metal Man you should know that there are still tons of real metal bands out there besides just the emo metalcore emocore asking alexandria type stuff. There is a thrash revival and and a traditional metal revival happening with tons of amazing new bands coming from places like Sweden, Finland and Germany etc. Stop complaing about the mainstream metal scene in the US and start living up to your name.
Metal didn't go away...not for the true metal heads out there. I know its not the same as it once was, and I think this is due to the bullshit that wound up taking over the airwaves to appease the young'ens. MTV started to suck and then brainwashed them into believing the Britney Spears and or Justin Timberlakes of this world are real music. I do believe it is time for a comeback however! We all have to band together and follow the words of the Mighty Phil Anselmo... THE TREND IS DEAD!!
Metal isn't dead at all, the old, traditional, classic metal bands are still awesomely well respected and Metal is more popular than ever before, hence why their trying to make it a religion. It might not be blatantly obvious in the charts and what not, but damn, it has a huge amount of dedicated die hard fans and always will do. Indeed, their are an insane amount of terrible bands claiming to be Metal when they clearly arnt, but these are simply a phase, this is obvious because bands such as Iron Maiden are still amongst the biggest bands in the world. For example, in the 80's 'Glam Metal' was considered to be wannabe Metal, bands such as Poison and Warrent were classed as a disgrace. Theirs always going to be developments on genres, we wouldn't even have Metal if their wasn't. Chin up dude, theirs so, so many fans defending the faith. Its bigger than ever. (and yeah Metal started in the 70s, arguably with Black Sabbath being the first)
Metal didn't die. The good stuff simply went more-or-less underground while Nu Metal took the spotlight. Surf around the net. You'll find lots of good metal albums from the last 10 years.
