Question:

What is the difference between shock absorbers and suspensions?

Examples: FOX Shox and Reiger Racing Suspensions

Answer:

A suspension is a system of components made to suspend or lift the body of the car, off the axles/drive wheels. A shock, which is actually a dampener, is one component of a cars suspension. As another already said, it's sole purpose is to slow down the motion of the wheel/suspension, both up and down, to keep the tires in contact with the ground and so you don't feel like you're bouncing down the road.
Difference Between Shocks And Suspension
Shocks are only 1 part of the suspension system, you have ball joints, tie rods, Springs, steering knuckles, struts etc.
