Question:

What is the fine brown dust in this warehouse cinder block wall?

I have encountered several dust patches around my warehouse. They are right under holes in the cinder block wall. I didn't know what it was from until i put some holes in the wall and found that this brown dust was inside the blocks. My guess is some type of insulation. Can anyone tell me what this stuff is? Also this warehouse is part of a school. Is it harmful in any way to humans? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Answer:

no wash it.vermiculite is a natural earth mineral
it is used as an absorbant for HAZARODOUS chemicals shipping. the absorbancy of the stuff is amazing...another reason is that it DOES NOT REACT with nearly all materials (if a container breaks open/leaks during transport, the verm. soaks up the liquid). acids are routinely packed with verm.....no adverse reaction will occur. verm is not known as a cancer causing agent like asbsetos!!! even if you ate this stuff like cereal, it'd simply go thorugh your stomach and come out the 'otherside'!!!! even stomach acid likely would not digest it (considering the small amt of time it would reamin there). **simply wash the bowl as you would if it were dirty with food......**
